Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I register at this uploader?

Free membership to this site was a limited time offer. Only paid accounts are available at this time.

2. How long will my files stay online?

Assuming that the file content does not break any rules, it may stay up as long as you want because you are free to organize and delete your own files at any time. Of course, if you run out of disk space, you might have to delete an older file to make room for newer files.

3. How large can my files be? What file types may I upload?

For users under the free basic membership plan, Each file can be as large as 100 MB. The current allowed file types are: jpg, jpeg, gif, bmp, png, zip, rar, wmv, wma, avi, mpeg, mpg, mov, vob, and mp3. Additional file types might be added later. When you log into your account, you can see a list to remind you of the type of files you can upload. If you want to upload files larger than 100 MB, please consider upgrading your account or using WinRAR to split the file up into smaller pieces. Note: Older members who signed up before November 2005 can upload files up as large as 350 MB.

4. Is there a limit to the number of times a file can be downloaded?

No, but there is a bandwidth limit. You can see how much bandwidth you've used in your account page, and it is updated in real-time. Remember that people who see your images or links might try and post them at other locations without asking you. Kindly ask them to not spread the links or tell them to sign up for their own FilePulse account. One way to help prevent hotlinking is to rename the file and update the link with the new file name at the location that you posted it. Do this anytime you think a file might have been hotlinked.

5. Once I register, is my account mine to keep forever?

As long as you don't break any rules or you login at least once every eight (8) weeks, then the answer is "yes". If you go on vacation and can't login, you must let me know.

6. Is there a restriction on where I can post my links and images?

No. You can post them on your website, blog, or on your favorite web forums -- just about anywhere.

7. What type of content do you not allow?

Please do not upload:

-Graphic content (i.e. real people getting killed)
-Files promoting discrimination or hate towards a certain group of people.
-No copyrighted content (i.e. Hollywood movies, music from RIAA members/affilates, Videogame ROMs/ISOs, etc)

I have nothing against free speech, but I don't want to deal with angry e-mails and it just makes things easier. If you are unsure if the file you want to upload is allowed, please contact me or read my Terms of Service page.

8. Where are these servers located?

Texas USA.

9. Do you limit the speed that people can download from your servers?

No, I don't oversell bandwidth. If you are always experiencing slow downloads, it is most likely your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or simply the long distance between the servers and your computer. There is nothing I can do about that.

10. I found an account who is abusing your service. Who do I contact?

Please send an e-mail to abuse@filepulse.com. Thank you for your help.

Member FAQs

1. I just signed up but I can't upload anything.

Your account must be approved first before you can start uploading files.

2. How do I upload a file?

Log into your account and at the top of the page, click the link that says "Upload". After that, you will be presented with the following page:

As you can see, uploading a file is pretty straightforward. Just make sure that the file is one of the allowed file types, it has no invalid characters (click the green link to see a list of characters that are not allowed), and that it is under the file size allowed for your account. When you press upload, you will not be taken to a different page, so just wait patiently for your upload to finish. If you accidently upload to the wrong folder, you can simply move it later once the upload is complete.

3. The large file I was trying to upload failed. What happened?

First of all, it is highly recommend that you only upload one movie file at a time. Some people like to choose 2, 3 or fairly large files at once, but this usually only works if you have a fast upstream. However, if you plan to upload many image files, feel free to do them all at once. Also dedicate all your bandwidth to the upload if possible. For example, don't run BitTorrent or similar applications that can take your bandwidth. If you share your connection with other people (such as roommates), this service might not work well for you. Try and upload when you have all or most of the connection available to you.

Another possible reason for failure is that your ISP might be doing maintenance, which can affect your connection. Unlike FTP, file uploads using HTTP cannot be resumed. If my host or one of the major backbone providers are doing maintenance, I will try to make an announcement on the front page.

If you still have issues, you can split your large file into smaller pieces using WinRAR. WinRAR is also good if the total file size is greater than 350 MB. All the person has to do is download all the small rar files, and then extract one of them, which will automatically merge all the pieces into one file.

4. How can I find out how fast I'm uploading when using this site?

You can download a firewall called 'Sygate Personal Firewall', which is free and is one of the best software-based firewalls out there. When you open it up, it will give you nice real-time graph like this:

It is usually normal if the line at the bottom looks a bit different than the one in the image.

You can also Google for NetMeter, DU-Meter or NetLimiter for additional programs. I've never tried them though, so I don't know how well they work.

5. My ISP says that I have a 384Kbps upstream, but I can only upload at about 42Kbps. What is wrong?

A. First of all, Kb is kilobits and KB is kilobytes. A connection rated at 384Kbps offers a speed of about 44KB/sec. So there is nothing wrong with your connection or the uploader.

B. Sometimes your download speed will affect your upload when doing http uploads. For example, at my former college, everyone was given a download speed of about 90KB/sec and an upload of about 300KB/sec. Yes, they capped the downloadstream a lot lower than the upstream. Anyway, when using a HTTP uploader such as this, I could only upload as fast as 90KB/sec. Of course, using FTP allowed for the full 300KB/sec. Please note this scenario is very rare.

6. How do I create a new folder in my account?

At the top of the page, click "My Files" and then at the left side of the page, click on the bold link that says "Folders" with the yellow folder icon next to it. Keep looking at the left side and you will see a "Create New Folder" link. If you want other members to browse through the folder you are about to create, put a check in the box. Otherwise, the folder will remain private.

7. How many messages can I keep in my inbox before it gets full?

At this time, everyone is allowed to store 20 messages.

8. How do I check how much disk space and bandwidth I have left?

Click the "My Files" link at the top of the page. On the left side, you will see your stats.

9. When does my bandwidth reset?

Bandwidth resets on the first day of every month.

10. What happens when I use up all my bandwidth/data transfer?

A message will appear saying that you have exceeded your limit. No one will be able to download your files until the 1st of the month or until you purchase additional bandwidth.

11. Do uploads count towards my bandwidth/data transfer?

No, uploads do not go towards your monthly bandwidth limit.

12. Can I use FTP to upload my files?

Using FTP to upload files is only allowed for premium members. Prices start at $1.99 per month.

13. Will you upload a file into my account for me?

Yes, in many cases, I can download files straight into the server and into your account. Just send me the link to the file.

14. Is there anyway to see if anyone is hotlinking my files?

No, but if you are really concerned that someone is posting your links on other web sites, let me know and I will check my log files. Also, if you think someone is hotlinking, rename the file and update the location of where you posted the link.
